Automatic Delivery of Schedule/Bill for On-line Payments

In order to improve our service to students, a new feature has been implemented for the upcoming Winter 2010 registration. Student will automatically receive a copy of their schedule/bill at their preferred e-mail address after they pay by credit card on-line in myGateway

Students will still be able to print their schedule/bill via myGateway as usual, but we’re hoping that this feature will reduce the load on the portal resulting from students who simply need a copy of their schedule/bill on the first day of classes. Thanks go to Chris Hebson for developing this feature.

Student ID Fee Update

Effective immediately, we will no longer charge a student a fee to obtain a duplicate SCE Student Photo ID card. We will still process the transaction through Banner using the steps below:

1. Obtain a copy of the student’s government issued photo ID to confirm their identity.
2. Issue the student their duplicate SCE Student Photo ID card
3. Process the transaction in Banner using detail code 3SID in the TSAAREV screen (Banner will apply a $0 fee).
4. Research the student’s history in Banner to see if they have requested more than 2 Student ID cards. This information can be found by checking for 2 or more entries of the 3SID detail code on TSAAREV.

If you discover that a student is requesting a duplicate Student ID card in what appears to be an unreasonable amount of time since the previous issuance, or they have already received 2 duplicate ID cards, please inform your Campus Dean. They will determine if any contact with the student is necessary.

If you should have any questions regarding this new process or the removal of the fees, please contact Diane Mendoza or Terrie Taylor. Thank you.

Outstanding Student Fees

The following letter was mailed to students yesterday who have a balance owing of $20 or more for at least 91 days. The letter was signed by Deepali Dave, Melda Lara, or Renee Myles, and states they have 30 days from the date of the letter to pay the fee or arrangements with the State Controller’s Office will be made to collect the debt.

If a student should visit one of the campuses to pay an outstanding balance, please email Deepali the student’s name and date of birth. She will then take the necessary steps to ensure further action is not taken.

Sample Balance Letter

Please feel free to contact either Deepali, Melda, or Renee if you have further questions.

Lab Fees

Recently Greg Schulz led a workgroup to review lab fees in regard to new interpretations of the Student Fee Handbook provided by the Chancellor’s Office. Based on their work, it was decided that lab fees will no longer be charged for the Parenting, Clothing/Sewing, and Mature Driver classes. The change is effective with the summer term. Alternative funding sources for the items purchased with these fees have been identified.
