High School Diploma Orientations

On page 20 of the spring class schedule there is a comprehensive diagram that communicates to our students a preferred process or for getting started and registered in the High School Diploma program. This includes obtaining an official transcript prior to applying for an SCE student ID number. Although this is the preferred process to ensure students obtain an official transcript before attending their scheduled orientation, it is not necessary for this step to be enforced before a student ID number is generated. We can be confident that the Counseling Department is communicating and enforcing this requirement. Please provide a student ID number without concern or reference made to an official transcript. The student will need an ID number before an orientation appointment is scheduled. Please feel free to contact Diane Mendoza if you have any questions or concerns.

High School Orientation Update

Special thanks to Anna Garza for providing this update:

For all of you working the front desks or answering phones this summer, I wanted to share information regarding high school orientations for the summer term.

We have just completed the last Wilshire and Anaheim high school orientations for the summer, and Jerry has the last Cypress one this coming Monday evening.

You might think this is very quick. But it takes almost two weeks for a student to be scheduled for an orientation, attend the orientation, have their transcript evaluated by Records, meet with a counselor, and then have a start date in the high school lab. With the summer term, if we were to continue orientations much past this week, by the time a student is “processed” they have no time to work in the lab - summer term for the high school labs will actually end on July 31. I know it sounds strange to students when we tell them we are finished with orientations and the summer term has only just begun - but this is why.

Please have potential students contact the matriculation offices for information about the high school diploma program. We will be telling them that we can begin scheduling orientation appointments again in late August or first part of September (it will vary at each campus). The phone numbers are:

Anaheim 808-4682
Cypress 484-7440
Wilshire 449-4784 - UNTIL about mid August. We do not yet have the new Wilshire numbers

What can students do in the meantime to further their goal of pursuing a high school diploma with SCE?

  • Request OFFICIAL transcripts from their previous high school or from their country - these must be SEALED when they bring them to us
  • Obtain an SCE student ID (get a Banner number - the Counseling appointment software doesn’t allow us to make appts without a Banner ID #)
  • Contact a Matriculation office again in late August to schedule an orientation appointment.
