"YOU COUNT WEEK" September 28-October 3, 2009

September 28-October, 2009 is YOU COUNT WEEK at SCE! In our campaign to collect the most accurate and updated student information, we have launched the YOU COUNT campaign over the past year.

This week, during YOU COUNT WEEK, we are asking our dedicated faculty members to take a few minutes in their classes to share with students the importance of keeping their student record updated and the methods for which they can update their record.

A webpage has been established at http://sce.edu/youcount. This webpage includes a letter from the Provost, YOU COUNT talking points, and the YOU COUNT flier.

You Count Week Activities:

  • Instructors are asked to read their myGateway and email messages regarding YOU COUNT WEEK, including links to http://sce.edu/youcount which includes a letter from Christine Terry, talking points regarding the YOU COUNT campaign, and the YOU COUNT campaign flier.
  • Instructors will receive a notice on iTendance, reminding them of YOU COUNT WEEK, and referring them to their electronic messages.
Students will receive a YOU COUNT WEEK message when logging into myGateway, asking them to update their student information. The methods for updating their information will also be shared.
  • Electronic pin pads have been installed at the three campus A&R offices for students to enter their social security number; this number will go straight into BANNER!
  • Additional YOU COUNT posters will be placed around campus.
  • Additional YOU COUNT fliers will be placed at the A&R offices, ESL Labs, HS Labs, Learning Centers.

Feel free to refer to any of the materials to answer any questions. You can also contact your program manager, Dean or Jennifer Perez (ext. 84671) with additional questions.

Numeric Keypads are here!

I am excited to announce that numeric keypads will be installed over the next several days at each of the A&R counters at all three sites. The purpose of these keypads is to allow students to provide sensitive information, such as a SSN, using a keypad that is sent directly to our enterprise system. These devices will be a wonderful complement to the You Count campaign that SCE launched last term to collect accurate information that is tied to our funding and accountability to the State. Some information on using the keypad is provided below for your reference:

Using the keypad: The keypad option should be offered if the student did not provide a SSN on their Application for Admission (i.e., the keypad is designed to be an alternate option for the student). Academic Computing will be demonstrating the use of the keypad at each site.

Special thanks to Academic Computing for ordering and installing these devices! :)
