Welcome back faculty and staff!
This is a new academic and fiscal year with many exciting challenges ahead as a result of the statewide budget crisis and economy, new leadership and programs. The good news is we are a family understanding the needs of our students with a passion to see them succeed. With that said, our Basic Skills/High School Diploma program will continue to move forward in a positive direction recognizing and accepting challenges while identifying creative, low cost or no cost ways to overcome the challenges.
Let’s celebrate last year’s accomplishments and partnerships including our 328 diploma graduates; the implementation of the Aztec non-diploma assessment created by Lisa Wing, adjunct, in collaboration with the lead Learning Center faculty to be pilotted in the Anaheim Learning Center this fall; new technology installed in the High School Labs and Learning Centers; High School Diploma Program as approved by the state chancellor’s office this summer; and colleagues throughout SCE particularly Academic Computing, Records, and Counseling!
The Basic Skills/High School Diploma Program opening day meeting will begin promptly at 1:15 pm on Friday, September 11th in the Anaheim High School Lab followed by the SCE Opening Day Ceremony “Cultivating Change & Honoring Diversity” from 9:15 am to 12:15 pm in the Anaheim Campus Board Room. Guests will include Christine Terry, Provost; Valentina Purtell, Dean of Instructional & Student Services; Jason McPheron, Programmer, Academic Computing; Diane Mendoza, Registrar; and Anna Garza, Manager, Matriculation. Topics will include budget; this year’s graduation timeline; the new diploma requirements and credits; future standardized assessment of basic skills students; and much more. Full-time faculty and full-time classified staff are expected to attend. Adjunct faculty and part-time classified staff are highly encouraged to attend if available.
