SCE Artists Share Their Talents with the Community

 

SCE art student Laura M Black’s pastel piece "the Lie” was selected to be featured in the 27th Annual Made in California juried art exhibition at the Brea Gallery. The exhibit, which Laura Black Pastel Artwork The Lieis on display now through May 4, 2012, highlights artwork of all genres made by artists who live and work in California.  According to the Brea Gallery, guest juror, Rebecca Morse, Associate Curator at MOCA Los Angeles, selected 80 works of art from about 600 statewide entries.

 

Black’s pastel on display, “the Lie” (pictured here to the right), is her most recent painting however it is the fourth time that her art has been selected for this juried show, making her a leading pastel artist in California.  Black has been taking SCE drawing and painting classes for the last 16 years.  According to her instructor, Jane Innes, “Laura is not only a star student, a remarkable person and artist, but she is also very generous with her time and assistance to fellow students.  We are lucky to have her as an SCE student!"    A testament to Black’s talents, “the Lie” was sold on the opening night of the show.

SCE Older Adults Painting ExhibitionSCE older adult students showcase their artwork in the Senior Images XIX exhibition at the Hunt Branch Library in Fullerton. The free show is on display now and runs through May 17, 2012 featuring the paintings of Veronica Kortz’s (pictured here, far right) students.  All community members are invited to attend an opening gallery reception on Tuesday, April 24 from 4-6 p.m.  The Hunt Branch Library is located at 201 S.
