Staff Development Application

If you find a professional development opportunity with educational value, the SCE Staff Development Committee may be able to help.

    Remember we have limited funding for many staff and faculty. We meet monthly and diligently review a broad scope of applications and enthusiastically support and value all SCE staff and faculty in a wide variety of professional development opportunities.

Express in detail the way the professional development opportunitiy aligns with the criteria specified by the State Chancellor’s Office [see list below] and the impact this activity will have on SCE staff, students and/or programs (i.e. professional growth, instructional improvement, work efficiency, curriculum implementation or organizational development.

To submit a complete application packet:

  • Attach a copy of the conference brochure showing all relevant costs and other supporting information.
  • All workshops/conferences for which reimbursement is desired must be Board approved. Submit a copy of the Professional Activity Request (PAR) being used for this activity.
  • Provide a statement justifying which State Chancellor’s Office primary criteria this activity/proposal meets in terms of professional growth and your current assignment (specify criteria number).

    The State Chancellor’s Office and the California Post-Secondary Education Commission, in accordance with AB1725, have proposed specific criteria to be considered in the evaluation of proposals:

    1. Improvement of teaching.
    2. Maintenance of current academic and technical knowledge and skills.
    3. In-service training for vocational education and employment training programs.
    4. Retraining to meet changing institutional needs.
    5. Intersegmental exchange programs.
    6. Development of innovations in instructional and administrative techniques and program effectiveness.
    7. Computer and technological proficiency programs.
    8. Courses and training implementing affirmative action and upward mobility programs.
    9. Other activity determined to be related to educational and professional development pursuant to criteria established by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, including, but not necessarily limited to, programs designed to develop self-esteem.
  • Provide a statement indicating how you plan to disseminate the information received through this activity to others in the Division. You will be asked to share the concepts you receive with SCE in one format or another.
  • Complete a detailed budget with all reported expenditures.
  • Obtain a supervisor’s signature on both the application and the PAR to indicate the review of this application.
  • Submit five copies of the application and accompanying materials to the SCE Staff Development Committee Contact Person - Cathryn Neiswender. Incomplete application packets will be returned.

All applications are evaluated on the nine Chancellor’s Office criteria and the impact the event will have within the programs at SCE. Please note: reimbursement of expenditures may be held until the evaluation and/or dissemination of information is complete. The SCE Staff Development Committee is honored to serve each staff and faculty member in their valued leadership toward excellent student outcomes at SCE.
